  1. None of this works – I have windows 7 by the way- I called Nuance who passed the buck to Brother (acresso was installed for paperport for the Brother printer). Brother passed the buck to Nuance. I said we need to get on a 3 way call with Nuance and she said we couldn’t as the system was down and had originally asked me to call back in 30 minutes because of that. I said when the system is up would we be able to get on a 3 way call and she said no. So what is the point of that ? When I called her on this she hung up on me. In the mean time Nuance people who answer the phone ask you to spell you name and email over several times and waste a lot of your time when you initially explain the scenario that you do not have an account since the acresso from paperport was installed by the Brother machine. Only after they get all your info and waste all your time do they then ask again about you account and when you explain again you do not have an account do they then pass the buck to Brother. This means I guess I must uninstall and reinstall if possible to not install acresso to run on the re-install – I have no clue whether this will work – Thank god I have a second printer by brother – this printer brother mfc-j4420d is horrible anyway so noisy- horrible color quality but I need a back up printer-

  2. Disable Startup for Acresso Software Manager

For Windows 7, use the System Configuration Utility (Windows 7)
Press Win-r. In the “Open:” field, type “msconfig” and press Enter.
    Click the Startup tab.
Uncheck the items you do not want to launch on startup (in this case, “Acresso Software Manager”

For (Windows 10 and 8.x), use the Task Manager
Navigate to the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Delete buttons simultaneously, and select Task Manager
    Click on the Startup tab.
Select the item not to launch at startup (in this case, Acresso Software Manager) with a left click, then right click to show the drop-down menu, and select Disable.

The program will still be on your system, but at least it won’t run at startup. I could not identify it in the Control Panel “Uninstall or change a program” panel, so I could not remove it. If you decide to uninstall all the Nuance Communications, Inc. programs, you can reinstall and customize your installation by making sure that you don’t choose the Automatic Web Update option.

    Hope this helps.

    1. Sigh – I just love Windows! My antivirus program apparently picked up the fact I have a Slimware application on my computer – although I can’t physically see it ANYWHERE. So, my security provider recommended a circuitous way to uninstall Slimware (although I’ve read more thorough ways of doing this online). In the course of trying to do this (unsuccessfully), I discovered a program on my Windows 7 PC called “Software Updates” under “All Programs” at the Start button. When I clicked on Properties for “Software Updates,” the following application was noted as, “Description: Acresso Software Manager,” created on Jan 10/17. Since none of these apps are included in “Programs & Features” > “Uninstall or change a program”, I then clicked on “Software Updates” located under “All Programs” on the Start Menu. This took me to the program itself, but the ONLY product listed here under Settings is “Nuance PaperPort 12; Daily at 10:00 AM.”
So, after reading your post & the one above, I then noted (under “Programs & Features > Uninstall or Change a Program”) the following: Nuance PDF Viewer Plus; Nuance PaperPort 12; & PaperPort Image Printer 64-bit – all installed on Jan 10, 2017 (my guess is this installation happened together with my then-new Brother DCP L2540DW (which I really disliked so it now sits on a shelf, unused & collecting dust). Thanks to you, I now know all Nuance apps [??] are on my computer in conjunction with one of 3 Brother printers that I own. My question: if I uninstall these Nuance programs, will this in anyway cause my Brother printers to stop functioning, especially the current default one which is the very basic Brother HL-2240. The irony of ALL of this is that I don’t even know if ANY of this is necessary since my printer is FINALLY working. But I made the assumption to uninstall them after reading your post, i.e., in order to ultimately be able to uninstall the Acresso Software Manager. Although I’m also making the assumption that the the Acresso Software Manager is analogous to Slimware which my security company recommended I uninstall – again, somewhat difficult since I can’t see it anywhere – and so I’m perhaps incorrectly assuming that these alternative un-installations will do the trick.
Lastly, my major concern and what is REALLY behind all of the above (rightly or wrongly) is that my LibreOffice 5.1 will no longer open, nor can I access any of its programs (e.g., Excel, etc.) I do have documents saved during the time LibreOffice Writer worked, and which I would rather not lose. So, my thought is to uninstall the LibreOffice, and then install the subscription I have to Microsoft 365. So, all of the preceding comments re: Acresso, Nuance, etc. are proactive (but perhaps needless??) measures to ensure Microsoft 365 installs properly.
IF this makes ANY sense to you, and you have any thoughts, I would be VERY appreciative.
