Now, these methods aren’t only meant for a gaming laptop, they can be applied to any laptops that you do gaming on.

So, let’s get started!

1. Remove Dust from your Laptop’s Internals

It’s no secret, the higher the accumulated dust in your laptop, the more heat your laptop will produce.

This is because dust blocks air flow in your laptop and if more dust is accumulated on the laptop’s cooling fan itself, then it lowers the fan’s speed.

Slower fan means low cooling power and higher temperature. This is basically like a domino effect. Hence, make sure to cool your laptop from inside out.

The first step to do is to clean your laptop’s exhaust because most dust is accumulated there. You can use a portable vacuum cleaner to it.

Once that is done, open your laptop’s lid and clean the internal with a painting brush with nylon bristles.

If you’re not sure how to do it, then do refer multiple laptop cleaning guides available on YouTube related to your laptop.

2. Get a Laptop Cooling Pad

Multiple people think that Laptop Cooling Pads are just a gimmick and do not do anything in real life.

However, that is not true. Obviously, there are multiple low-quality laptop cooler available in the market, but if you get a reliable laptop cooler, then things are going to get better.

What a laptop cooler basically does is, it intakes the hot air from your laptop and releases it sideways, just like an exhaust fan. Hence, more the fans in your laptop cooler, the better will be the heat dissipation.

If you want a reliable laptop cooler, then I would suggest the recommendation made by Laptoplex, which is Havit HV-F2056 that is a 3-fan laptop cooler ideal for 15-17” laptops.

3. Close Open Applications in Background those aren’t required

It’s no secret that the number of applications opens in the background; do interfere with your laptop’s gaming performance.

This is because each open application will draw some CPU power and memory, this robs your game from utilizing these resources and hence it affects performance.

Make sure to open Task Manager in your OS and Close all the applications that aren’t required.

Just make sure to not close any Windows Services.

4. Use Thermal Paste on CPU and GPU

When a Laptop is manufactured, the guys that apply thermal paste on your CPU and GPU do a very shoddy work. Sometimes, the thermal paste isn’t applied at all.

The thermal paste is basically a chemical compound that allows your CPU or GPU to transfer heat away from itself into the exhaust fans.

Get a good quality thermal paste and apply it your CPU and GPU.

5. Improve Hardware

If none of the above 4 tips helps, then I bet you must be overworking your hardware.

Make sure to get an SSD or upgrade your laptop’s RAM to improve your laptop’s gaming performance.

Switching from an HDD to SSD will improve your laptop’s gaming performance by a good margin.

More specifically upgrading to SSD will result in faster loading times in the game, so that you don’t have to wait long to play your game.

Additionally, upgrading RAM will result in your laptop storing a high amount of data in RAM for quick access, thus improving gameplay.

Conclusion

  1. I have used Arctic thermal paste for my pc and laptop as well. But I don’t notice any improvement in the CPU performance and cooling for a week. Should I wait further to see the difference or can try another brand? Do you have any suggestions for brands of thermal paste for both CPU and heatsinks?
