The application unsecapp.exe is actually an application of Microsoft Windows only. This process is related to Windows Management Instrumentation, which according to Microsoft is, “Related to the infrastructure for management data and operations on Windows-based operating systems”. As per Microsoft, the role of Unsecappe.exe is quite complex. Microsoft defines its role as being ‘to send results back to a client in a process that may not have permissions to be a DCOM service.
Both scripting and the Microsoft .NET System Management namespace rely on the unsecapp.exe application to receive the results of asynchronous operations. In simple terms, the process unsecapp.exe is used to establish a compatible connection between a program running in your computer and a remote server. Basically, it is used to send and receive information between the remote server and the program running in your computer. It is an integral part of the Windows system.
Why has Unsecapp.exe suddenly started running?
There is mainly only one reason because of which Unsecapp.exe starts running in computers, and that is when an already installed program has started running it. Usually it starts running when a new program is installed on a computer. Mostly when a person installs gaming softwares such as Steam, this program might start running. It has also been observed that some anti viruses also may trigger Unsecapp.exe to start on its own. These softwares need a constant connection with their remote server, especially Steam, as because that remote server is from where you will be able to buy and download games you want.
Is Unsecapp.exe a Virus or Malware and should you Uninstall it?
While unsecapp.exe is not a virus or a malware file, you can never be sure. There have been various cases where a hacker has ably disguised their own packages with a name similar to unsecapp.exe, and at times have used the exact same name. The easiest way to check if the process running in your computer is a legit program and not a hacker’s doing, we need to check its location in our computer.
To check the location of the file in your computer, go to This PC(Computer/My Computer in older versions). There on the top right side you will see a search bar. Type the name of the program ‘Unsecapp.exe’ in the search box. The location of the program should be ‘C:\Windows\System32\wbem\Unsecapp.exe’. When the results appear, you’ll also see another file by the same name in another destination in the Windows\winsxs\folder with either an x86 or AMD prefix depending on your computer’s CPU. If other than this, the application Unsecapp.exe appears anywhere else there is a chance that this might be a virus disguised as a windows program. You must run a full security scan with your antivirus to check for viruses if this happens with you.
